    Excellent video. Sparring/testing is helpful for understanding the principles. I thought it was great that you say that some people may be doing it for other reasons where sparring is less relevant. With tai chi , the expectation was that people would have done an external art previously. However, it is also beneficial for health, energy and awareness even without the context of sparring. Though sparring can add an extra dimension, it’s the internal changes that become a focus.

    You forgot about one important criteria: you must see your aggressor's handst so you can see and stop them from getting a knife or handgun from their waist or jacket. It's also relevant to train going out from a pin/osaekomi waza as fast as possible, if you realize that your aggressor friends are coming to attack you, otherwise the first aggressor can hold you taking advantage of the pin while his friends attack you

    You need a way to contain the match to a small space. Mats themselves don't do that. If you're going to criticize the ropes then you should present an effective alternative. You would need a much bigger mat, a set of rules and a lot of interference by the ref to contain the match without structure, and it would have to be down off the platform on the floor. That setup might not fit available venues. A cage would be better, but perhaps interfere even more with throws. In a real fight there would be virtual certainty of much more obstacles to avoid. If you don't like the ropes, it's up to you to avoid them.

    in order for aikido to work, it is necessary to deal with weapons, and not with new models, but with old armor techniques, for example, singake ryu marabashi, who explains when, how and why it is necessary to act this way and not otherwise. in order for the technique to work with weapons, it is necessary to change the principle of generating efforts, which many styles are trying to teach, for example, old karate, wushu or Kadochnikov style, all this is about the same thing. but the vast majority stops at the external form, not understanding the inner content. and when they try to apply an external form without proper internal content, they naturally fail with boxers. impact karate as an example of a commercial attempt to create Japanese boxing for its main purpose.

    I believe judo will never break into MMA and the mainstream until no-gi judo becomes just as popular as gi judo. Today, most people view the gi as archaic. Judo, by extension, is ipso facto viewed as archiac too

    Wrestlers can’t do judo? Nonsense. Greco-Roman wrestlers do just fine. And in fact aren’t dependent on grabbing clothing to do well. Freestyle and American folkstyle wrestlers struggle some with throws but judoka are largely pretty bad at grabbing legs. And basically nobody does both wrestling and judo at an elite level.

    Vídeo historic research: 10/10 Chadi’s Personal opinion: 5/10 (imho) (It’s an 3 years old video so ill take it with a grain of salt) I don’t think calling it a gym is a problem, and if anything having way too many bureaucratic steps that only stops people from practicing the art/sport. Also some misconceptions when it comes to Brazilian culture, every BJJ gym I’ve been to in Brazil we would always address the sensei as Mestre (Master) or Mestrão (Great Master), and in the contrary all the BJJ gyms I’ve been to in Japan we address the sensei by their last name + san. I think modern BJJ cares more about having people learning and mastering the arts while not quitting, than keeping some surface level robotic respect that will only gatekeep people from staying. And those who stay will have respect for their masters and peers as a result of the hardwork they put and they see others putting as well, that is true sincere respect, not something forced into them. That’s how I see it, and at the end of the day, we’re all entitled to different opinions. Great video nonetheless!

    I would say that you should do whatever fits you better, Judo to me feels somewhat impractical with the gi and a lot of the takedowns are very complex and when not executed correctly will put you in a bad position. Bbj is too much ground game for me to feel comfortable saying it’s good for self defense, so I naturally gravitated to wrestling which was more basic and can be simplified to just hugging legs and tackling. It’s also quite effective in street fights especially mat returns which is pretty much all you’ll need to know to feel untouchable in a street fight (however legally could get you in a lot of trouble) it also features inside trips and other judo like moves that would certainly help with transitioning to judo. Additionally it doesn’t use a gi so you can practically use the moves at anytime which was a big plus for me. I have always been told wresting is the strongest base in grappling however I do feel judo is maybe less popular in America which is where I’m from. I will also give credit where it is due to judo which features a submission based ground game that is very similar to bbj with takedowns for a standing game.

    • @SamPalms6943
      @SamPalms6943 3 дня назад

      Granted though I am mentally more of a wrestler than anything else and enjoy the agressive animalistic style it brings, the takedowns feel powerful and explosive and scrambles are way to fun to pass up. I think judo has very flashy takedowns that will have you spinning in the air and hurt very badly when you land and are very sneaky because of the use of leg entanglements from standing positions. Regardless I have really only seen two people in my life get knocked out by grappling and one was a gut wrenching Mat return from a wrestler (concrete return) and one from a judo guy who used a sanigi (the move where you drag the arm over your shoulder and use your hip to bump them up and toss them) into the pavement. Both absolutely disgusting to see in real life but both effective. As a quick side note judo moves are very fusterating to me because there isn’t a clear level change associated with them and often time are performed in bad positions such as back takes.

    I just did a seminar with Justin Florez last night and it was one of the best experiences at a seminar I’ve ever had. Super jealous of people so get to train with him on the regular. A true judoka! Interestingly, I asked him about finishing Sumi Gaeshi, without a gi l, as a counter to a single leg, and without using the ude Garami grip, and he recommended taking a near Overhook (a wizzer) and then reaching down and gripping the wrist that uke would use to post with in order to stuff the throw.

    The big difference with Karo and others is Hayastan. They routinely did judo/sambo "without" the gi. They master control ties along with their regular gripping. Not "occasionally" but routinely. That's rare in judo circles. The main reason for Ronda's success with throws, along with JFlo. . Also, Karo was fighting grown men in underground MMA events in Mexico when he was in his early/mid teens. So, he had to learn to adapt fast. Most judokas who go into MMA haven't had the same amount of time learning control times, so they find wrestling more efficient. I've watched 95% of every major MMA event since the mid 90s, and you always find traditionla judo takedowns in every event. Just last night in PFL. 2 female judokas fought. Many MMA fighters have judo beginnings. It's just not emphasized . Great work, Chadi! Again.
